15th Annual Conference on Electronic Document Management (eDM)

01.12.2014 - 03.12.2014

15th Annual Conference on Electronic Document Management (eDM)

Berlin (DE)

Standardisation is key to the success of adoption of new techniques and processes. If houses were not wired with copper wires providing power of a standard voltage through a predefined power outlet, Edison would not have been famous for his successful introduction of light bulbs. However, national or regional standards have been developed for power outlets and voltage but nobody is trying to get the responsible parties together to globally harmonise the voltage and power outlets. These kind of obvious standards have become a commodity and when travelling abroad, everybody uses adaptors that make the connection between regional power outlets and voltages. How come that in the age of modern technology and quick communication we are still aiming at global standards? Should we be less dogmatic about global standards? Should we focus more on adaptors? Or electronic and automated adaptors that allow transfer of information from sender to recipient and vice versa? This is not limited to industry-to-agency transfer, but is also applicable to transfers between CROs and sponsor and between various applications within a company, such as, but not limited to, SAP, eDMS, eTMF, eSubmission, RIM, LIMS, SPL, electronic health records, electronic data capture and electronic forms.

3rd Conference on Carbon Dioxide as Feedstock for Chemistry and Polymers

Media-Partner

02.12.2014 - 03.12.2014

3rd Conference on Carbon Dioxide as Feedstock for Chemistry and Polymers

Essen (GER)

A new paradigm for the industrial chemical production has arisen over the last few years: the CO2 economy. According to this vision, CO2 is no longer seen as a waste product with dangerous environmental effects but increasingly as a feedstock for chemicals, fuels or polymers. This vision has been gaining momentum and is now emerging from the research laboratories as a serious alternative path to securing the constant supply of carbon atoms the industrial chemistry sector will continue to need for their production cycles, even in a world where fossil resources are completely depleted. For the 3rd year in a row, the conference will concentrate on this topic.

8th Berlin Conference on IP in Life Sciences – Natural Products

8th Berlin Conference on IP in Life Sciences – Natural Products

Berlin (DE)

atural products are an important source for pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, cosmetics and other functional admixtures. More than 1000 compounds alone have been taken from plants, animals or other marine resources for medicinal, nutritional and cosmetic use. However, progress in the life sciences opened the stage for a new generation of natural compounds: DNA sequences from terrestrial and aquatic resources like plants, animals or microbial organisms led to recombinant proteins with uncomparable properties. But, the access to natural products is contested. The Nagoya Protocol and the Convention on Biological Diversity regulate the access, although these conventions have yet to be implemented in the EU and national law. This process is still ongoing and touches issues such as biodiversity, better conservation, more sustainable use of marine biodiversity and the enhancement of cooperation and synergy between providers of biodiversity and their industrial users. This is highly critical for countries exhibiting a rich biodiversity to create new added value on a global scale. The regulations will have an impact on the patenting system. This BIOCOM conference is designed to illustrate the latest regulations and illustrate the practical use.
