SCS heads for England
Edinburgh – Scotland’s life sciences sector has been dealt a fresh blow after a cutting-edge stem-cell technology company decided to close its Edinburgh headquarters in favour of England. Stem Cell Sciences (SCS), which has maintained its headquarters in the Scottish capital since 2004, has elected to move its base to its other UK operation in Cambridge. New chief executive Alastair Riddell said the decision was purely operational, with the company “stretched” by having split British operations. But he admitted choosing Cambridge over Edinburgh was “not a very hard decision to make”. All of the group’s 14 Edinburgh-based staff have been offered jobs at the new base, but the company conceded some would not take up the offer.
