World Innovation Summit

The HiT Barcelona 2009 is bringing entrepreneurs and international investors in biotechnology and other high-tech industries to the Catalonian city from June 17th-19th. The innovation summit will focus on three strategic sectors with high future growth potential: telecommunications, cleantech (clean and renewable energies) and health care (health sciences and biotechnology). The Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and a range of state and city organisations set up the initiative, and the organisers expect it to attract more than 2,500 business leaders to the Montjuic fairgrounds. The event will combine an area for 'reflection' with plenary sessions and an area for 'creation', which consists of a programme of meetings and sector-related activities (Innovation Marketplaces). The ‘Plenary Congress’ is to provide a forum for experts to reflect on key concepts behind creativity, theory and practice in innovation. The driving idea behind the HiT Barcelona 2009 is to promote business projects and foster relationships between entrepreneurs and investors. The Marketplaces will also each put on a tournament, pitting 15 of the most innovative projects worldwide in each sector against one another.
