Spain launches biotech platform
Madrid – Agendas, working committees and associations in Europe’s biotechnology sector are not hard to find. Now the spanking new Spanish Biotech Platform (launched in May) has to show if it is more than just another extension of the government there. Established by the Spanish Bioindustry Association (ASEBIO) in partnership with the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (SEBIOT) and the Fundacion Genoma Espana (Spanish Genome Foundation), together with funding from Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, the platform is to facilitate collaboration and communication between the various players in science, technology and enterprise. The to-do list is long, says Jose Maria Fernandez Sousa-Faro of ASEBIO, who is a member of the management team. “We want to develop a strategic agenda, establish three working groups in the fields of health, industrial and agri-food, create an Internet TV service, blogs and forums and a daily newsletter on mercadosbiotecnologicos.com.
