Krka wins patent dispute against Pfizer
Ljubljana – Pharma giants Warner-Lambert and Pfizer have withdrawn their lawsuit against the Slovenian generic manufacturer Krka d.d over the infringement of two patents concerning their US$12bn blockbuster drug Lipitor (atorvastatin), according to a company spokesman. A district court in Ljubljana formally stopped the proceedings related to the alleged infringement of the patents EP 0 839 132 and EP 848 705 on September 19. Previously, the patents that would have expired in 2011, had been finally revoked by the European Patent Office (EPO).
Krka anticipates the planned sales of the product, the company said. In the first half of 2009, the company sales climbed by 2% to EUR 477.8m, generating a net profit of 82.8m over that period.
