First EIT call
Budapest – The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) launched a call for proposals for its first Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) at the beginning of April (http://eit.europa.eu). The call will remain open until 27 August, and the first two or three KICs will be selected by the end of 2009.
KICs have been conceived as highly integrated public-private partnerships between higher education, research, business and entrepreneurial actors, and will provide the EIT with an operational engine. They are meant to be innovative webs of excellence for responding to challenges like sustainable energy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the future information and communication society.
Launching the call for proposals for the KICs is a major step forward for the EIT. Funding is expected to begin in 2010 with more than EUR20m.
