EIT board appointments
Budapest/Brussels – The Budapest-based European Institute of Technology (EIT, eit.europa.eu) has received its first governing board. The 18 members, who held the board’s inaugural meeting on the occasion of the EIT’s official launch in mid-September, will identify, select and kick-off the EIT’s operational centres by December of 2009 (see EuroBiotechNews 7-8/2008). “I am convinced that the excellence of the Board’s members will make it a success,” said President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso after the nomination. The board members were selected by an ad-hoc committee in July. Three of them come from the
–Dr. Alexander von Gabain co-founded Austrian vaccine specialist Intercell AG in 1998, and served as CEO of the company until 2005.
–Dr. Ellen de Brabander, CSO and Head of Global R&D at Merial, has being working for more than 15 years in different managerial positions at Dutch fine chemical specialist DSM, and most recently as VP R&D and Board Member at Intervet.
–Swedish immunologist Dr. Erna Möller, Executive Director of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, was Director at Astra (1995-1999), and the Director of AstraZeneca plc. (1999-2007) as well as Chairwoman of the Nobel assembly.
