German biotech sector indicators go green
Berlin – The German biotechnology industry is growing. German companies showed an increased turnover of a2.4bn (+9%) in 2010, record funding of a700m (+122%) and an increase in the number of employees in commercial biotechnology to around 15,480 (+3.2%). The number of active firms (538) also rose. Expenditure for research and development in 2010 was stable at around a1bn. These are the main results of the biotechnology company survey 2011 carried out by the information platform biotechnologie.de, which is performed on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). biotechnologie.de collects data according to the guidelines laid down by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which are internationally comparable.
