On track for Lisbon

19.03.2008

Helsinki – A study conducted by the research arm of the global assurance firm Allianz SE for the Lisbon Council, a Brussels-based think tank, has concluded that Finland already fulfills all of the criteria for the so-called Lisbon Agenda, a set of reforms which seeks to enhance the EU’s global economic competitiveness through a stronger emphasis on research and development. Finland was ranked number one among EU members, overtaking last year’s winners Denmark and Sweden, which have now dropped to third and fourth place. The study found that while Finland will easily overshoot the minimum targets set by the Lisbon Agenda, countries like France, Austria and Italy are struggling to meet them.
