07.06.2004

Oulu - A new GMP pilot plant with a total floor area of 2,300 m2 has been inau-gurated in Oulu, adjacent to the Medipolis Center, the university, the Oulu University Hospital and the Kastelli Research Center. Financed by the city with some Euro11 million and operated by Medipolis GMP Ltd. the Medipolis GMP plant offers modern technologies for microbial and cell culture production (fermenter capacity of 10 to 500 litres, and 10 to 100 litres respectively) as well as downstream processing. It aims to to be flexibly used by small companies or big pharma developing novel therapeutics, drugs, medical devices or diagnostic aids in pilot quantities for clinical trials. The European medicinal agency (NAM in Finland) has granted a production licence to the new Medipolis GMP and also regularly inspects plant operations according to cGMP standards.
