Kuopio - Exposure to dioxin, a cancer-causing agent, does not appear to raise the risk of an uncommon cancer called soft-tissue sarcoma, a new Finnish research shows (Int. J. Cancer 2004 Mar 1). Dr. Jouni T. Tuomisto, National Public Health Institute, Kuopio, and his team measured dioxin levels in fat samples from 110 soft-tissue sarcoma patients and 227 similar patients without sarcoma. “It is probable that other effects, such as developmental defects, are more important in human risk assessment”, Tuomisto concluded.
