Rajamäki/Darmstadt – A cooperation project between AB Enzymes Oy and Royal Oy has resulted in the discovery of an enzyme that enables washing temperature to be dropped to as low as 10° C. The project is being funded by the SymBio programme and coordinated by the public funding organisation Tekes. A commercial roll-out is planned for 2011. Established in 1991, Royal Oy is a biotechnology company manufacturing industrial enzymes. Since 1999, the firm has been owned by Associated British Foods (ABF). Located in the Southern Finnish municipality of Rajamäki, over 90% of the company’s products are exported. AB Enzymes, which is also owned by ABF, is headquartered in Germany.
