Fermentas lands big Fisher

12.09.2010

Vilnius/Waltham – Lab giant Thermo Fisher Scientific has completed its EUR212m cash takeover of Lithuania‘s largest lab tools provider Fermentas International. Integration of the firm into Thermo Fisher’s Analytical Technologies segment will likely be completed during the third quarter of 2010, according to Thermo. The supplier of molecular biology consumables was spun-off from the Institute of Applied Enzymology in Vilnius in 1978, and employs 500 researchers in product development and R&D at its site in Lithuania. Thermo Fisher has strengthened its PCR product portfolio with the deal, which follows the acquisition of Finnzymes in April of 2010.
