Graz - Researchers from Austrian JSW-Research Forschungslabor GmbH have halted Alzheimer's progression in mice with a drug that blocks the cholesterol converting enzyme ACAT. The cholestrol structure analogue reduced the levels of brain-clogging amyloid plaques by 88% to 99% suggesting a treatment for Alzheimer's disease (Neuron 44(2):227-38).
