Tools of Science opens gates

Brussels – A European gateway to life science capacities has been launched (www.toolsofscience.eu) that is aimed at providing a novel resource for identifying the best facilities and service companies from among 13 bioregions across Europe. National and regional financing opportunities to support R&D projects in life science companies are featured, as well as guidelines and useful links to collaboration tools. Tools of Science provides an easy way to identify the right partner for scientific services. It currently displays around 200 entries, with a number of bioregions on the waiting list. Researchers and entrepreneurs can navigate in the database structure using keywords or categ­ories such as region, development phase or specific field of science. There are also guidelines and templates for facility-sharing and information on funding opportunities available as downloads at the portal. The gateway was developed within the scope of the EU-funded ABC Europe project (2009-2012), which brings together 13 life science clusters in Europe – amongst them Wallonia’s BIOWIN, Britain’s One Nucleus and French clusters Medicen and Alsace Biovalley. Supported by the Council of European Bio­regions, the overall aim of ABC Europe is to internationalise life science SMEs, bringing together clusters across the continent.
