Public investment in biotech

21.02.2009

Madrid – Spain’s health ministry is aiming to boost biomedical and technological research through investments worth EUR45m over the next four years.
The measure is part of the Spanish government’s 2008-2011 national R&D plan, which came into effect in September 2007. It’s ambitious aim is to make Spain one of the world’s ten most productive countries in science, technology and innovation by 2015.
The Health Ministry has announced the institutes that will receive grants. These include the Health Sciences Institute of Aragón (for the construction of the Aragón Biomedical Research Centre), the Valle de Hebrón research institute, Spain’s National Oncological Research Centre (for the development of antitumor drugs), the La Paz hospital (for the development of a molecular medicine institute) and the University of Navarre.
