Focus on Marine Biotechnology

23.11.2003

Oslo/Copenhagen - A Marine Biotech Group has been established in September within the meta-network ScanBalt. It comprises representatives from the public and private sectors of Marine Biotechnology, including scientists from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Russia.
Prof. Peter Aleström from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science in Oslo chairs the group, which was welcomed by Jan A. Olafsen, president of the European Society for Marine Biotechnology. Recently the Nordic Academy for Advanced Study (NorFA) approved the group's application to fund a meeting in January where the participants will flesh out the marine biotech network. The group plans to apply for fun-ding through the European Union's 6th Framework Programme within a marine research platform yet to be set up.
