Rise in cancer

13.07.2009

Rome – Breast cancer – especially in young women – is 72% more common than suggested by an official estimate published by the Italian Health Ministry, according to a new study (Exp. Clin, Cancer Res.). The statistics collating the incidence of breast cancer in Italy from 2000-2005 showed the sharpest uptick (+28.6%) in the youngest group (ages 25-44). Experts have proposed that hormones in the environment might be a possible cause, and have called for more screening programmes.
