Tuscan success story

07.03.2012

Toscana Biomarkers S.r.l has entered the market for biomarkers with its first diagnostic kit. In late January, the company from Siena signed a licence agreement with DIESSE Ricerche S.r.l, based in Genoa. DIESSE will produce and market the kit for the diagnosis of early-stage rheumatoid arthritis. By identifying antibodies against citrullinated proteins, the test allows the exclusion of other, similar forms of acute and chronic arthritis. For Toscana Biomarkers President Antonio Sanò, the company is right on track, and by bringing a new product with strong commercial potential to market, the firm “founded as a research start-up by professors from the Universities of Florence and Pisa – has fully achieved the objectives set five years ago, when it began.”
