Synergies in Biotechnology
Hannover - “New concepts in molecular medicine from Finland and Germany” and possibilities for cooperations were explored by representatives from politics, economy and science at a joint event in October at the trade fair Biotechnica 2003 in Hannover, Germany. German Research Minister Edelgard Bulmahn and Leif Fagernäs, Finland's embassador in Germany, underlined the big economical impact of biotechnology. “Now is the time to invest in biosciences. It is the key technology of this century”, said Bulmahn. “For ten years, Finland has exported more biotechnology products than it imported”, remarked Fagernäs and added that there is however a lack in technology transfer and a low level of patenting with many patents being filed in the USA. The event emphasized the fair's international character and was jointly organized by the Finnish Institute in Berlin, the German-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, Finnish Bioindus-tries and BioTOP Berlin-Brandenburg.
