Mayo clinic to co-fund biotech hub
Brno - The International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) in Brno, will collaborate with the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to establish a clinical and research education center that meets the challenges of 21st-century research, and which will be located squarely in the middle of the Czech Republic's emerging bio-tech corridor.
The project was approved by the Czech government in March, with a commitment of $60 million (Euro50 million), with an additional $20 million (Euro16.6 million) in funding to be provided by St. Anne's Hospital, the City of Brno and the county.
The new research cluster will strengthen EU-US collaboration in medical research and education, particularly in the areas of cardio- and neuro-vascular diseases, internal medicine, neurology and oncology. ICRC Brno, which also draws on substantial research experience derived from project work between investigators from the Czech Republic and from Mayo Clinic, will be located at St. Anne's University Hospital. Some research-related projects will be conducted at Masaryk University's Campus Bohunice and Cardiovascular Animal Research Center located at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacology.
