Prague/Tokyo – Tokyo-based Otsuka Pharmaceutical has established its first research, development and manufacturing facility in Eastern Europe. By the end of August, the diversified company had completed the acquisition of Czech manufacturing specialist Interpharma Praha AS. The Japanese group bought all outstanding shares of Interpharma from its mother company Interpharma West.
Interpharma’s pharmaceutical portfolio includes several small molecule cancer drugs. It also runs R&D programmes in nutraceuticals, and brings in expertise in process development, scale-up and commercial production of pharmaceutical compounds and fine chemicals. The acquisition also opens a door for Otsuka in the growing Russian market.
