BIOTEC 2006, the first international biotechnology conference and exhibition in Eastern Europe, held at the end of October, staged the official inauguration ceremony of the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC). The US$80-million center, announced in March, supports an international collaboration between the Mayo Clinic, scientists in the Czech Republic, leading academic institutes and major companies such as GE Healthcare, IBM Healthcare & Life Sciences and Intel. Besides next-generation clinical research facilities, ICRC Brno houses a state-of-the-art cardiovascular clinical center, an international educational center and a technology cluster. On the governmental level, the project was prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Ministry of Finance
