Synergene: First DNA Forensic Cases

08.05.2004

Valetta - Further to the launch of its DNA Forensics division in February 2004, Synergene Profiling, a subsidiary of the Synergene Biotechnology Group, has successfully completed its first DNA forensic cases.
Contracted on behalf of a local court appointed expert, Synergene has been involved in two local high profile cases. The work was carried out in Malta by trained Synergene personnel together with the collaboration of local and foreign forensic consultants.
Commenting on these developments, Kevin Camilleri, Business Development Director Synergene said, “We are very pleased that the efforts of Synergene to establish DNA forensic services in Malta have finally been recognized. Until recently samples used to be physically transported to international laboratories at a much higher cost.”
Synergene is now working to establish closer links with the local law enforcement agencies particularly the police force. A number of projects are also in the pipeline including promoting the establishment a local DNA Criminal Database in line with developments in the rest of the EU countries.
