Pharming and SOBI launch Ruconest marketing in the Netherlands
Leiden/Stockholm – Dutch Pharming Group NV and Swedish specialist for rare diseases Orphan Biovitrum AB, have launched their recombinant C1 inhibitor Ruconest® in the Netherlands. The launch of the treatment for patients suffering from acute attacks of heriditary angioedema comes after final approval from the Dutch regulatory authority. Ruconest, produced in the milk of transgenic rabbits, is the first pharmaceutical product launched in Pharming’s home market. To date Ruconest, which compensates the lack of the functional human plasma protein C1 inhibitor, is available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, UK, Germany, France, Latvia and the Netherlands. Reimbursement applications are under review in most of the other countries; the European roll-out by Pharming’s marketing partner SOBI continues. In spring, the FDA rejected a BLA for the drug.
