Genomics initiative claims 300 million euros for strategic plan
Hague – The Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI) has claimed a300 million for its “Strategic Plan 2008 - 2012”. The central elements of the strategy are a continuation of the national approach to genomics and an increased strengthening of the knowledge base. According to the NGI, which presented its plan to five involved ministries, the large public investment is required to optimally develop and utilize the potential of genomics in a comprehensive approach to improve the quality of life and to strengthen the economic structure. The institute sees genomics as a key approach to improving true innovation in fields such as health, food, agricultural and industrial production, environment, safety and sustainable growth. The five ministries invited the NGI to develop this strategic plan for the upcoming five year period, the third since it creation in 1998.
